We begin our “deep forest tour” through the Schwarza Valley in the centre of Staufen, a small town on the Brendnerberg Mountain. At first, we will take a look at the overview of the starting board at the Herz-Jesu Chapel. Initially, there is a small section through a meadow and along the edge of the forest, until we come to the trail going into the Schwarza Valley. After a few metres, we will bypass the Gießenbuck and cross a small road that leads down to the Schwarzabruck hydroelectric power station. The Kuchelfelsen cliffs really show what makes the climb so special. On the left of the trail is the first phosphorescent slope where it is possible to see native chamois goats gambolling. For a snack break the approximately 50 m descent to Muckenloch Hut is well woth it, before beginning the ascent. The “Muckenloch Trail” in the Bannwald area is a smaller, natural track. Then we meet the Brenden Access Path (2,3 km). Just before the Rappenfelsen Cliffs, the path becomes more and more narrow and leads upwards on steep slopes under cliffs. After crossing a field of scree, we come to the Rappenfelsen Cliffs. There we can enjoy the view in the idyllic Schwarza Valley. We follow the adventurous path, leaving the Bannwald area, coming to a woodchip field, and arriving at our highest destination, the Wartbuck. We gladly make use of the little benches in order to catch our breath. Afterwards we hike over the higher Wartberg Trail to the hiking car park which has barbecue areas. There we cross the main road between Brenden and Staufen. On the stretch to the right, we pass the Löffelkapelle and return to our starting point, where we can end our tour with an enjoyable stop at the Hirschen Guest House.
Tipp des Autors
With some luck you can see chamois in the early morning and late evening. Dawn and dusk are the best times to see the animals!
