Kreismuseum St. Blasien
In its exhibition, the St. Blasien District Museum traces the period from the founding of the former monastery to the most important and powerful Benedictine abbey in the Black Forest.
Beschreibung
"The museum traces the development of the former monastery from the lonely "Cella Alba" to the most significant and important Benedictine abbey in the Black Forest. It shows the history of the building of the cathedral, the abolition of the monastery during secularisation, the process of industrialisation and the rise of St. Blasien as a health resort for the nobility, the upper middle classes and important artists around 1900.
In a relatively small space, a structural change spanning several epochs is visualised. This structural change also includes the emergence of sports tourism. The St. Blasier Museum presents the first skis to be produced in Germany. It provides information about the landscape, nature and geology, about art and culture. For example, works by the painters Hans Thoma, Franz Xaver Winterhalter and Hermann Fidel Winterhalter are on display. Special exhibitions are also organised."
