Museum 100 Jahre Automobilgeschichte im Hotel Lafette
100 years of automotive history in a small space
In its early days, the Gasthaus Lafette was a refuelling station for horses after the strenuous ascent through the Höllental valley.
When the first cars replaced horse-drawn carriages in the 1920s, it was common for petrol stations to be located in front of conveniently situated inns and operated by the innkeeper on the side.
In the museum, a 100-year-old Shell petrol pump is located exactly where the original used to be. There is also an EGO 4/14 racing car, built in 1922, which is probably the only surviving example of the 3000 cars of this type originally produced.
Beschreibung
The Isetta dates back to the 1950s and many older people associate it with their first holiday trips to Italy, the land of German longing. As many people could not afford to buy a car back then, they saved up for a motorbike or moped. A Zündapp from 1958 and an NSU Quickli from 1958 are on display as examples.
The Unimog from 1953 was sold to a Berlin coal dealer. A few years ago, it was bought back and overhauled by the Mercedes workshop that supplied it at the time, the Endres company.
The lovingly maintained, light blue Fiat 500 is an example of a small car from the 1970s. The Smart, which was purchased by the German Red Cross in Karlsruhe as an emergency vehicle as part of the "Herzmobil" campaign, was on the road until 2021 and is equipped accordingly.
The Hinterzarten Mountain Rescue Service is also represented with a VW T 3 bus, built in '87, which was in use until 2012, and many items of equipment.
An extensive collection of Isetta and Unimog models completes the exhibition.
