Staumauer Schluchsee
The largest earthwork in the Black Forest.
Beschreibung
The construction of the dam between 1929 and 1932 and the subsequent damming enlarged the original glacial lake by a factor of 3.5. Today, the Schluchsee has a length of approx. 7.5 km and a maximum width of 1.5 km and is the largest Black Forest lake with a water surface area of 5.14 km².
The dam has a height of 35 metres above the valley floor and 63.5 metres above the bottom. The volume of the structure is 124,000 cubic metres. The crown length is 250 metres and the crown width is 3.70 metres.
The dam can be easily crossed in a wheelchair.
