In the 1950s, Emil Thoma brought the private teacher Josef Asal from Freiburg to the Erlenbruck inn in Hinterzarten to give his daughter and a friend accordion lessons. Not only these two girls showed enthusiasm for playing the accordion, others joined in, so that a small orchestra emerged from this group of like-minded people - the foundation stone was laid.
After diligent rehearsals, the newly founded orchestra with 12 players was able to perform in public for the first time in 1957 in the Josefshaus in Hinterzarten with the help of the Ziehagilde Freiburg.
The first independent concert followed shortly afterwards. This laid the foundation for today's accordion group. The proceeds from a concert with the Seitz family from the Black Forest in 1959, at which more tickets were sold than there were seats available, were used to finance the first traditional Black Forest costumes. Further financial support for this came from the municipality. From this point onwards, the name "Trachten Accordion Group" was used.
From then on, it was not far to the first spa concert in Hinterzarten, which was followed by many others, including in neighbouring communities. Other performances at receptions, congresses and weddings soon followed.
When the Kurhaus in Hinterzarten was opened in 1963, spa concerts and receptions for high-ranking politicians and presidents were held there regularly. Before that, concerts were held in various hotels or outdoors. Even back then, the Christmas party or Christmas concert, which is still traditionally held every two years on St Stephen's Day (26 December), was held in the Kurhaus.
On 30 September 1983, the traditional costume accordion group gave its 1000th spa concert in Hinterzarten.
In September 1986, Mr Josef Asal had already celebrated his 30th anniversary as conductor and had spent around 7000 hours with the Hinterzarten accordion group during this time.
After 35 years in Hinterzarten, Josef Asal finally handed over the baton to his former pupil Bernhard Lickert from Breitnau on 19 October 1991.
In autumn 1993, Bernhard Lickert had to resign as conductor due to lack of time and a successor had to be found. With the then 22-year-old Frank König, a young, spirited and very committed successor was found from the group's own ranks. He led the group for 30 years until December 2022.
Lisa Profazi has been wielding the baton for the accordion group since December 2022.
