Veranstaltungsdetails
Tarot, a family of cards that also includes the game of cégo, has been played in the Black Forest for well over 200 years. Over the last two centuries, there has been an almost unmanageable variety of different card hands, of which only two are still in use today.
On display are 35 card sheets and reprints from the private collections of Hansjörg Weckerlin, Achim Laber, Frieder Büchler and Klaus-Jürgen Schultz. In addition to a number of packs produced in Freiburg, the exhibition also includes cards that were once used to play Cego but are now only used for fortune-telling, as well as packs whose trumps reflect the humour of the 19th century. There are also some examples of different families of cards, known as view tarot, animal tarot and tarot with bourgeois scenes. Cards from our European and American neighbours are also on display.
The exhibition is open until the end of April from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm, admission is free.
