Attractions & traditions of the Black Forest Highlands

The Black Forest cuckoo clock was first made by a man with the name Franz Ketterer in Schönwald in 1737. The cuckoo clocks then travelled all over the world and the whole region became famous for their hand crafted clocks. To walk on the footsteps of the famous cuckoo clock makers you should visit the first worlds largest cuckoo clock in Schönwald or the German clock museum in Furtwangen. Much tastier is another star that came out of the Black Forest: The Black Forest Cake. It is without doubt one of the best-known gastronomic specialities in Germany and known worldwide.
