Beschreibung
The last stage from Todtmoos through the Wehraschlucht gorge begins gently and gently at first. After the hamlet of Schwarzenbach, the Schluchtensteig then leads through a varied mixed forest down to Zumkellersäge. The farms of Wehrhalden near Herrischried can be seen far above on the opposite slope. Once at the bottom of the valley, the path crosses the Wehra and leads to a small game reserve. The flanks of the valley come closer together and become steeper and rockier. The rocky slopes of the Bannwald forest rise up to 200 metres above the foaming river. A narrow path leads past the Hirschfelsen and Pfeiferskopf. Deep below, you can see the road carved out of the rocks in the gorge. Switch sides again to head for Wehr on the right-hand side of the Wehratalschlucht gorge. Again and again, there are views of the eastern side of the valley. With a bit of luck, you may spot chamois on the steep walls. At the rest area at the Mettlerhütte, you have one last opportunity to enjoy the view of the Swiss Alps. The trail gradually loses altitude until you cross the dam wall of the Wehra reservoir. Then it's an easy run along the river to the finish station in the castle park with the Old and New Castle of the Lords of Schönau, the centre of the weaving and textile town of Wehr.
