Beschreibung
The tour takes you past several chapels worth seeing. The first chapel you come across is the "Klausenkapelle". It is dedicated to St. Nicholas and stands on the border of two farms. Half of it belongs to the Griesbachhof (Schildwende) and the other half to the Berggrunderhof (Jostal).
The next chapel is that of the "Pfaffenhof". The chapel probably dates back to the 17th century and was built next to the farm's smithy. The farm itself dates back to 1613. The next chapel is on the left, the Knöpflehof farm chapel. The chapel dates back to 1718 and was built in gratitude for “three children born at once” - triplets.
You then pass the "Öhlermühle" mill. It has been restored and can be visited on Sundays and public holidays from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm. The Benediktenhof chapel is the last chapel in the Schildwende.
Now you come to the first chapel in the Siedelbach valley. It is the chapel of Simonsjörgenhof. The chapel dates back to 1771 and its interior is adorned with a large statue of the Virgin Mary and several small statues of angels. A large cross on the wall and several pictures bear witness to the fact that the chapel is still regularly visited for prayer. The former Andresenhof chapel was built in 1684 and now serves as a lumberjack's hut. The farm was demolished around 1900. The bell was moved to the Scherlehof in Eschbach. If you take a closer look at the landscape around the chapel, you may notice that the land on which the farm once stood is slowly becoming overgrown.
Now you come to the Unterhöfenhof farm chapel. The chapel was rebuilt in 1962. The chapel bell dates back to 1718 and the chapel was consecrated to Our Lady on May 1, 1963. Inside, you are greeted by a cross on a simple stone wall framed by a colorful window wall. A statue of the Mother of God stands beneath the cross. The simple design of the chapel invites you to pray.
Wegbeschreibung
You start the tour at the Klausenkapelle chapel. At the entrance to the Schildwende, you will come across the Klausenkapelle chapel. From the Klausenkapelle chapel, turn towards the Schildwende valley.
Follow the paved road and the yellow diamond sign towards Fürsatzhöhe. The next chapel is on the right-hand side, at the Pfaffenhof, directly attached to an outbuilding. You continue uphill and let yourself be drawn into the idyllic valley. The murmur of the Schildwendebach stream accompanies you on your way. The next chapel is on your left: the Knöpflehof farm chapel. Before you reach the second highest farm, the Benediktenhof, you pass the Öhlermühle mill on the left. The last chapel of the Schildwende awaits you at the Benediktenhof. Now gather all your strength to overcome the last ascent. The view is worth it. You reach the highest point of the tour: “Bei der Fürsatzhöhe”, 1070 m. Now you turn to the invitingly announced easy, flat route, which leads you past the “Zum Strauss” inn towards Siedelbach. Enjoy the view from the high trail and soak up the mountain sun. Behind the stables, the road leads you right into the Siedelbach valley. The valley is even less populated than the Schildwende and allows you to immerse yourself in a silence that lets your soul breathe freely.
Passing three farms, you reach the Simonsjörgenhof chapel. The path now takes you into the plain and before you reach the Jostal valley, you will see a small building on the left-hand side. On closer inspection, you will discover a cross on the roof ridge. This is the former Andresenhof chapel, built in 1684. The Siedelbach valley is almost cut off from the Jostal valley. Past the Andresen chapel, follow the hiking trail with the yellow diamond through the forest and turn towards Jostalstüble at the “Höfenloch”. Cross the road and walk past the Jostalstüble to the Unterhöfenhof.
You now return to the starting point. To do this, take the path back to the Jostalstüble, pass it on the left and follow the path marked with a yellow diamond. This will take you directly back to your starting point, the Klausenkapelle chapel.
Pay attention to the direction of the hiking trail.
