Autorentipp
In the nature reserve north of the B31, cotton grass grows on boggy ground. To the south, the orchid, which belongs to the orchid family, grows abundantly in May and June.
The pilgrimage chapel was built in 1850. The reason for the construction of the chapel is interesting; you can find out more about this in a brochure available in the pilgrimage church.
Refreshment stops in Löffingen and Rötenbach
Tip: The Weiler Chapel is also worth a visit. The 442-year-old chapel is located between the Dittishausen district of Löffingen and the Kirnbergsee lake and has been lovingly restored by the Verein zur Erhaltung und Förderung der Kapelle Weiler e.V. (Association for the Preservation and Promotion of the Weiler Chapel).
Wegbeschreibung
You start at Rötenbach town hall and walk along the easy riverside path of the “Rötenbach”. After a short stretch, the path leads you away from the stream to the right. At the next signpost, follow the signs for “Wildpark Löffingen”. The path takes you under the railroad line and the B 31. Straight ahead, within sight, there is a barbecue hut at the edge of the forest, which you can head for to take a short break if necessary, and from there you also have a beautiful view of the village of “Rötenbach”. From the hut, walk approx. 100 m to the right on a wide forest path; then keep right again. Walk in the shade of the spruce forest until you see the “Seelbrunnenhütte” in front of you. Follow the signpost to the right towards Löffingen. The wide, easy path takes you to Löffingen's “Waldbad” (the restaurant is open when the pool is open). From the Waldbad, turn right onto the road and keep right again at the next fork in the road, then you will see the pilgrimage church to the “Witterschneekreuz” on a small hill, the chapel is next to it. To reach the center of Löffingen or the train station, walk to the right of the chapel on the footpath, which is lined with 14 Stations of the Cross. The footpath leads into Maienlandstraße, which you walk along until you reach the town center. The train station is about 3 minutes to the right of the village center. Now you can take the regional train in the direction of Neustadt to Rötenbach.
As a circular route, walk from Löffingen station to the right, cross the level crossing and take the next street on the right (Hohlgasse). Follow this residential street to the country road, cross it and walk straight ahead for about 100 meters. There is a signpost indicating the “cycle path to Rötenbach”. Follow this asphalt path through the “Rötenbacher Wiesen” nature reserve. At the end of the path, turn right and follow the sign “Bahnhof Rötenbach”.
