Black Forest Ham Museum
How does a piece of pig become ham? The unique museum in the Feldberg Tower interactively and engagingly conveys the traditional production of Black Forest ham.
Beschreibung
On the highest peak of the Black Forest with a far view into the neighboring European countries, a museum of its own is now dedicated to a globally important regional culinary specialty and thus to an entire region and its people: the Black Forest Ham Museum.
The Black Forest Ham Museum takes its visitors on a journey through time. In a video message, a contemporary witness vividly describes how ham used to be smoked in the Black Forest, bringing the traditions and customs of her childhood to life. Numerous stations invite visitors to look and sniff, feel and listen - interactive, multimedial and engaging.
In this way, visitors learn where the pork legs used to make Black Forest ham come from, what dry pickling, "burning" and smoking over local coniferous wood are all about. A particular recipe data base gives suggestions and tips for the enjoyment of Black Forest ham.
The museum in the Feldberg Tower was created on the initiative of the Black Forest Ham Producers' Association.
