Wegbeschreibung
Lindenberg is nestled between the Black Forest and the Rhine plain – it is a comely, traditional place of pilgrimage featuring a pilgrimage church, a guesthouse, and a pilgrimage tavern. It has been a place of reflection and prayer for over 500 years. The viewing platform at the chapel presents you with an exquisite view of the valleys Ibenbachtal and Eschbachtal as well as the Rhine plain, Kaiserstuhl range, and even the Vosges mountains on clear days. The Lindenberg circular trail starts at Zähringer Eck in St. Peter, the busy commercial center of town with many shops and bus stops for the incoming buses from Kirchzarten, Glottertal, and St. Märgen. Go uphill from Zähringer Eck. We take the first righthand fork to Birkenrain, past the Muckenhof pond to Hochgericht, a hill with a cross, and meeting place of the high court (“Hohes Gericht”) in medieval times. We continue from Hochgericht, past the pilgrimage tavern (closed Mondays!) and the retreat house to the Maria Lindenberg adoration chapel with its viewing platform. To return to Zähringer Eck, we follow the right fork just below Lindenberg’s pilgrimage tavern in the direction of Eckpeterhof, a farm built in 1728, and finally back over Muckenhofweiher and Birkenrain to the town center.
