Beschreibung
The story of the "Witterschneekreuz": In the winter of 1740, a hiker got caught in a snowstorm on the hilltop, which was called "Itirsne" and later "Witarsne" as early as the 11th century. In his distress, he vowed to have a cross erected there where he would be saved. At the site of today's pilgrimage church, he heard a bell from Löffingen and passing woodcutters took him into the town. The man kept his vow. Over the years, more and more pilgrims came to the "Witterschneekreuz". An open chapel was built in 1792, the now "old" wooden chapel in 1846/47 and the present pilgrimage church in neo-Romanesque style in 1894-1897.
