High altitude climate trail Hinterzarten "Kesslerhöhenweg"

The detour to the "Vincent-Zahn" rock offers a great view!

You start your tour at the "Kurhaus Hinterzarten". With the hiking signs behind you, follow the white and red diamond on a yellow background in the direction of "Adlerplatz". From there, walk past the "Maria in der Zarten" Catholic Church in the direction of "Schwefelmättle".

Cross the road and leave the town. At Schwefelmättle, walk straight ahead towards the playground. Once you have reached "Wolfsgrund", take the stony forest path on the right up towards "Herchenwald". About 50 meters further on in the forest, you will see a signpost for the nature trail, which provides information about the tranquillity and recreational power of the forest. The trail continues through the forest, where you can enjoy the cool, spicy air. At a small crossroads in the forest, take a sharp right to "Vincenz-Zahn-Felsen", from where you have a wonderful view. From here, return to the forest for a few minutes on the "Schwarzwaldverein" Trail and continue uphill following the yellow diamond.

In the Herchenwald forest, you come to the tarred path, which you take straight ahead in the direction of "Hugenberg". A few minutes later, you will reach the edge of the forest. On the longer walk downhill along the edge of the forest, you can enjoy the view to the south and the sun shining through the trees. Once you reach the playground at the bottom of the plain, turn right towards "Kesslerberg". After about 20 meters, follow the path on the right that leads uphill until you reach the road. Walk up the road and follow the red rhombus trail to "Scheibenfelsen". From here you can enjoy the wonderful panoramic view over Hinterzarten.

Continue left past the Adler ski jump. Here you are guided by the "Wichtelpfad" trail and reach the foot of the ski jumps in small hairpin bends through the forest. Below the Adler ski stadium, follow the yellow diamond to the "Hochmoor". After the picturesque "Adlerweiher" pond, cross the tracks. Walk on a footbridge through the moor and follow the yellow diamond trail to the parking lot. Here, turn left into Freiburger Straße and follow it back towards the train station until you reach the Kurhaus.

At the Hugenberg and on the ascent to the Kesslerhöhe, subdued climatic stimuli in the protection of the forest, stimulating on the sunny path through the village and at the edge of the forest and intense on the rather short sections of the path across meadows. Increased cold stimulation in winter, in summer only seldom heat stress even in the village.
