Grässlin Collection
The Grässlin Foundation presents its internationally significant collection of contemporary art in a unique way. A visit to the KUNSTRAUM GRÄSSLIN is the starting point for a guided discovery walk through St. Georgen. Annually changing exhibitions in the external RÄUMEN FÜR KUNST provide guests with an insight into empty stores, municipal facilities or private houses and create an impressive encounter beyond the picturesque Black Forest idyll.
Beschreibung
Since 2006, the Grässlin family has been presenting its collection of national and international art from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s in the GRÄSSLIN ART ROOM and the ROOMS FOR ART scattered throughout the town of St. Georgen. Since then, interested visitors have had the opportunity to gain an insight into the private collection during guided tours of the town.
The beginnings of the GRÄSSLIN COLLECTION date back to the 1970s, when parents Anna and Dieter Grässlin began to collect prints of southern German Constructivism and numerous works of German Art Informel. Their four children Bärbel, Thomas, Sabine and Karola, infected by their parents' passion for collecting, turned to their own generation in the early 1980s and acquired works by Werner Büttner, Günther Förg, Isa Genzken, Georg Herold, Martin Kippenberger, Meuser, Albert Oehlen and Franz West, among others. The collection was later expanded to include works from the 1990s and 2000s. Artists such as Kai Althoff, Michael Beutler, Cosima von Bonin, Clegg & Guttmann, Mark Dion, Michael Krebber and Heimo Zobernig, who pursued a conceptual or context-dependent approach, thus found their way into the collection.
The KUNSTRAUM GRÄSSLIN and the approximately 20 external RÄUME FÜR KUNST can be visited by appointment with a guided tour. Further information can be found at www.sammlung-graesslin.eu.
