Jostäler Freilichtspiele
After many smaller and larger performances of well-known plays and dialect plays from the local area, the decision was made to break new ground. In 1985, the idea for the first open-air play in the Black Forest Highlands was born.
Beschreibung
Albert Beha (director), Alfred Rombach and Karl Zähringer formed the first organising team. They set themselves an ambitious goal: only plays with a historical background from the Black Forest Highlands and the surrounding area were to be performed. A talented writer was found in the author Albert Faller, and the first suitable play was found straight away.
Once an ideal venue had been found at the Griesbachhof in the Schildwende and a larger group of players and helpers were prepared to take the risk, the play "Der Königenhof" premiered in July 1987 to an enthusiastic audience. The four performances were completely sold out and so the play was performed again the following year in front of an enlarged auditorium due to the numerous requests. Once again, all performances were fully booked to the last seat.
In 2011, the venue was moved to the historic Oehlermühle in the Schildwende. The grandstand was remodelled and extended.
