Präger Gletscherkessel
The small village of Präg is home to the Präg Glacier Basin, a unique natural sensation that is an absolute highlight for nature/animal lovers and geologists.
Beschreibung
With its three small glacial lakes, the Präger Gletscherkessel is a unique natural highlight in the middle of the Todtnau mountains and has rightly been designated a nature reserve. During the Würm Ice Age, 115,000 to 10,000 years ago, a total of six glaciers collided here (unique for low mountain ranges) and formed a unique landscape. Today, several scree slopes and large boulders around the glacial lakes are evidence of the former glaciers. The natural lakes, which can sometimes dry up during long periods of warm weather, provide a habitat for a variety of rare animals and plants.
A special tip is the circular lake trail to the Präger glacial lakes: From the centre of Präg (bus stop at the town hall), walk downhill for about 100 metres and then turn left onto the lake path.
A very special world of flora and fauna awaits you - the boulder pile (remnants of the last ice age) is also very special.
