The Kandel – the Brocken of the Black Forest
The Kandel – an ideal excursion destination in summer and winter.
Beschreibung
The Kandel (1,241 m above sea level) can be explored while hiking, cycling, climbing, or paragliding. In the winter, there are lifts that take skiers to the slopes. There are easy and difficult descents for all levels. The toboggan slope with its sledge lift is well looked after and guarantees fun for the whole family. The viewing platform on the Kandel provides a unique panoramic view of the Black Forest and the Rhine Valley.
Legend claims that the upper part of the Kandel rock broke off on Walpurgis Night, from 30 April to 1 May. A besom was later found among the rocks. This event gave the mountain its nickname - the “Black Forest Brocken”.
There are two welcoming inns in the area. The Mountain Inn (Tel. +49 (0)7660-2500000) and the rustic “Gummenhütte”, where the so-called “Fensterliwirt” serves hearty meals and all kinds of thirst quenchers through the basement window. (Tel. +49 (0)7684-795, info@fensterliwirt.de).
