Schonach in the Black Forest
Thanks to the first world's largest cuckoo clock made by a skillful clockmaker, Schonach has already made it into the Guinness Book of Records. Today, visitors can see this unique piece of Black Forest clock history not only from the outside, but also from the inside. In the nature, excursion destinations such as the legendary lake Blindensee or the Rohrhardsberg nature reserve attract visitors.
In Schonach you will find accommodation for every taste, both fully equipped vacation apartments, in which you will lack nothing, as well as the full service of a modern hotel complex.
Tips for Schonach
With the 1st world's largest cuckoo clock, Schonach is home to a true Black Forest highlight. The Langenwald ski jump is also worth a visit - on Wednesdays it can even be toured. If you want to explore the nearby mountain Rohrhardsberg on foot, the U(h)rwald trail is just right for you. Also through unspoilt nature leads the Lake Blinden, located in the high moor.

From the lounge into the forest - this is how cuckoo clocks become chic nesting places for singing forest dwellers. Anyone hiking the Rohrhardsberg U(h)rwaldpfad trail will discover cuckoo clocks hanging from trees on the tour. The trail continues up the Rohrhardsberg and repeatedly offers beautiful viewing points and places to sit - to take a breath and a break. Visitors can also find peace and relaxation in nature at Lake Blinden. The lake and the 10,000-year-old high moor can be reached on forest and wooden footpaths. Back in the certified spa resort Schonach, we recommend a visit to the centrally located and modernly designed spa park with adventure playground. There, children can steer a raft across the lake and adults can enjoy coffee and cake in the bistro.
In summer, hiking and biking trails invite you to explore the surroundings and landscape around Schonach - whether on foot, by mountain bike or with Nordic walking poles. One of the most popular destinations is the nature reserve Blindenseemoor, which is also passed by the Westweg trail Pforzheim-Basel. The circular Lake Blinden, which is filled with dark water, resembles a "moor eye" that seems to watch the hikers from a fathomless depth. However, this circumstance has nothing to do with the name, rather the lake Blindensee was named after a former neighboring farm in the valley of Schwarzenbachtal.
During a hike up the mountain Rohrhardsberg, the view attracts a good farmer's meal ("vesper") and cool drinks. At the Schwedenschanze inn at 1,163 meters above sea level, not only the hand-carved furniture and decorations of the guest room are unique, but also the view from the outdoor terrace. In summer, however, the inn is open only on weekends and holidays. In winter from Wednesday to Sunday. Visitors can also get to know Black Forest culinary delights and tradition on delicious guided hikes up the Langenwald ski jump in Schonach, one step at a time. Once you reach the top, your toes start tingling because the ski jump is 38 meters high. The gaze goes down and wanders into the distance. It's an exciting feeling to stand up there on the World Cup ski jump and enjoy the view, where every year the world's best Nordic combined athletes try to jump as far as possible with their skis. Winter sports in Schonach is not only something for professionals, but also for hobby athletes! Numerous cross-country trails and ski slopes make the hearts of winter fans beat faster. The long-distance skiing trail Schonach- Belchen also starts here. With these training opportunities, it's no wonder that Schonach is home to Olympic champions Georg Hettich, Hans-Peter Pohl, Hansjörg Jäkle and Alexander Herr.
