The Broom Binder's Ball has been the hall event of the Todtnau Fasnet since 1960. The Besenbinderball replaced the Großer Preismaskenball.
The Besenbinderball was created by the Besenbinder founding member Adolf Wunderle. Until the mid-1960s, the guild council sat on stage during the programme, as in "Mainz remains Mainz"; this was not always pleasant for the guild councillors.
not always pleasant for the guild councillors.
Until 1976, the Besenbinderball was held in the Hotel Ochsen in Todtnau. That year, the Ochsen burnt down. It was very cold during rehearsals in the Ochsen hall, as the heating was only switched on two days before the ball. "There's something to see in room 10!" Room 10 was the backstage area in the Ochsen. This is where the actors changed for their performance. To get to the stage, they had to cross the courtyard. "It was freezing cold," remember former councillors Manfred Schäfer and Hermann Zeller. However, the two are certain that the best "performances" took place in room 10. From 1977 to 1980, the Besenbinderball took place in the small gymnasium in Todtnau. In the 1980s
the Besenbinderball was initially held twice in a row, on Friday for the "better ones" and on Saturday. It is said that Saturday was always more fun. The Besenbinderball was repeated on Carnival Sunday in the Kurhaus in Todtnauberg.
After the construction and official opening of the Silberberghalle on 11 November 1980, the Besenbinderball was held in the Siberberghalle from 1981. At the general meeting on 11 October 1985, it was decided that only one Broom Binder Ball should be held in future.
In 1983, new hall decorations were purchased for the Silberberghalle.
This was "in use" until 1994 and was then really "worn out". In 1995, the hall decoration was purchased, which still adorns the hall ceiling at the Besenbinderball today. Hans Herdrich hosted the Broom Binder Ball programme for over 25 years, and since 2008 the Broom Binder Ball has been hosted by Roland Walleser.
