Beschreibung
Schonach is not only famous for its many natural attractions, but also for hosting the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup. The "Black Forest Cup" has been held for over 40 years - where skiers jump from the Langenwald ski jump and the world's best athletes compete in cross-country skiing at the Wittenbach cross-country stadium.
The almost 400-year-old farm museum (former residential part of the Reinertonishof) fell victim to a fire in 2006. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new building took place in 2008. The traditional museum was reopened in 2010.
Schönwald was settled around 750 years ago. The impressive beauty of its forests was certainly the inspiration for the name. At first, the village consisted of the mighty Black Forest estates, which dominated the high valleys a stone's throw away from each other. It was only later that the village grew up around the church to become what it is today: a well-kept spa town where everything has centred around guests for over 100 years. But time has not stood still. Schönwald has opened up to the younger generation in recent years. The year-round holiday resort was once again recognised as particularly family-friendly in 2015. Thanks to its healthy and invigorating mountain air, Schönwald has been recognised as a premium-class climatic health resort.
Schönwald also has its own ski jump, the Adlerschanze, whose inrun tower high above Schönwald is an eye-catcher from afar. From 1968 to 2005, the ski jump hosted major competitions in both men's and, in recent years, women's ski jumping. In summer 2008 it was decided to give up the large Adlerschanze for cost reasons. The two junior hills are still in use.
The Blindensee is a legendary high moorland lake located at the watershed of Gutach and Elz. The drainless "Blindensee" with its rich flora typical of a raised bog with cranberry, grasses, clover, heather etc. can be reached via a wooden footbridge. The name of the lake probably comes from a former farm that stood near the lake and whose owner was blind from birth (Blindenhof). You have to experience the incredible beauty of the changing seasons, especially when the blue of the sky is reflected motionlessly on the forest-black lake when there is no wind.
Schonach, with the districts of Rensberg, Rohrhardsberg (an independent municipality until 1970) and Schonachbach (located below Triberg), is one of the largest village communities in the Black Forest and lies in one of the most beautiful high valleys, 770 - 1163 m above sea level - the centre of the village is 850 m above sea level. The landscape is characterised by a wide variety of ups and downs and is criss-crossed by forests, meadows and pastures, heaths and moors. Geologically, the district is part of the Triberg granite massif, whereby larger and smaller waterfalls have formed due to rock heaps, for example on the Gutach, Schonach, Elz and Alpirsbach rivers. The bioclimatic conditions correspond to a gentle climate from May to September and a stimulating climate from December to March, which led to Schonach being classified as a climatic health resort.
