Moors have always been steeped in stories, myths and legends - they are home to spirits, elves and demigods.
The Moor Guardians continue these centuries-old stories by introducing fascinating figures from the rich mythology to the nature reserve. It is therefore particularly important to the initiators (who were involved in the creation of the Moor Guardians) that the guardians are ambassadors for nature conservation. They are a reminder of how important it is to protect and preserve our unique landscape. (Thomas Rees)
The first moorland guardian is “The boy in the moor”, standing just after the level crossing at the entrance to the moorland circular trail. The second station is eaten by the moor guardian “Nebulon”. Nebulon belongs to the family of ghosts and weather wizards. His appearance is usually veiled, nebulous, wafting like a shadow and disappears quickly when he is disturbed. The “Moos-Annele” is the third station. The Moos-Annele is characterized by the most beautiful, beguiling form and the central European mythical creature. The fourth moor guardian is Adnoba. dnoba is the Celtic goddess of forests, springs and rivers. You continue along the path and meet “Faun”, a moor guardian who is one of the gods. Faun was the god of forests in ancient Rome. The last guardian on the circular route is the “Moosmännle”. They belong to the family of nature spirits, related to the forest spirits such as the glass dwarves in the Ravenna gorge.

It is best to start directly at the Kurhaus, cross the road and walk past the train station into the “Winterhalde”. After a few meters, turn left at the mountain rescue service and you will come directly to the first moor guard “the boy in the moor”. To see all the moorland rangers, do not cross the footbridge, but go back a little way and then turn left and follow the path, after a short time you will come across “Nebulon”. If you continue along the path, you will gradually get to know all the moor guards.
To get to know “Die Moosmännle”, go left along the road at the end of the path, but after approx. 200 m turn left again “Richtung Sportplatzweg”, after a short distance you will find them. To get back to the Kurhaus, walk back to the road, cross it and follow the next path to the Kurhaus.
