Riesenbühlturm
A popular hiking destination with a magnificent panoramic view of the Schluchsee and, on a clear day, as far as the Alps.
Beschreibung
From the centre of the village, it takes around 45 minutes to reach the remarkable tower construction made of Douglas fir wood and steel. The viewing platform can be reached easily and safely via a total of 140 steps and offers fascinating views of the marvellous natural landscape around the Schluchsee.
As early as 1931, a viewing tower of approx. 25 metres in height was built on the Riesenbühl, which collapsed in April 1945 under the impact of a storm. A first attempt to rebuild it at the end of the 1970s failed. The tower idea was taken up again in 1999. The drafts, the final model and its realisation were followed in October 2001 by the inauguration of the Schluchsee community's eye-catcher, visible from afar.
The timber - a gift from the city of Freiburg - was hewn by the local people themselves as a sign of solidarity. With these Douglas firs in the basic construction, the tower has since defied the Black Forest storms with a height of 36.5 metres up to the top of the tower.
The Riesenbühl Tower is not barrier-free.
If you would like to hike up the Riesenbühl tower from Schluchsee, you can follow the Riesenbühl trail. The hike starts at the Schluchsee tourist information centre.
