St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
The church of St. Johannes Baptist is a Roman Catholic parish church in Todtnau. It was built at the end of the 19th century according to plans by architect Georg Schäfer.
Beschreibung
The neo-Romanesque building quotes Renaissance and Baroque styles, making it a unique example of great art-historical value. Due to its elevated location, the church is visible from afar in the town and is considered its landmark. At the end of the 13th century, Todtnau was elevated to its own parish and in August 1288 a stone church was consecrated in honor of St. John the Baptist. The predecessor churches burned down several times. The immediate predecessor church also fell victim to a devastating fire on July 19, 1876. The parish of St. John the Baptist belongs to the Upper Wiesental pastoral care unit.
The creation path behind the church was inaugurated on the occasion of the 725th anniversary of the parish in 2013.
