Eisenbach (Hochschwarzwald)
The community Eisenbach in the Black Forest owes its name to the mining of brown ironstone, which was carried out here for almost 500 years until 1942. Today, however, Eisenbach is especially known by watch lovers, archers and winter sports nostalgics.
In Eisenbach you will find accommodations for every taste, both fully equipped vacation apartments, in which you find everything you need, as well as the all-round service of modern hotels.
Tips for Eisenbach
Eisenbach is known by sports enthusiasts for its archery center. But nostalgics will also find what they are looking for at the St. Benedikt church and the Heimatstube with bird and mineral exhibition. The typical Black Forest farms can be viewed on the hike "Auf dem Höchst".
Beschreibung
Eisenbach offers a variety of winter sports and summer activites. In summer, hikers and mountain bikers will find challenging tours and trails in the mountainous terrain. The town is also known for its watchmakers, archery and culture with Black Forest flair, inviting you to relax and discover.
The watchmaking industry experienced its peak season in the 19th century. Almost every house in the town produced clocks and watches: Weights, pendulums, clocks and of course gears - in no place in the Black Forest were more clockmakers than in Eisenbach. Today, the Uhrenstrasse, the annual International Antique Clock Fair and the Eisenbach clock exhibition in the Heimatstube commemorate the great history of the local clock industry.
In 1908, something historic happened in Schollach, which is located in a small side valley of Eisenbach and impresses with its centuries-old unspoiled nature: Robert Winterhalder invented the "Aufzugbahn für Rodler und Skiläufer" - the first ski lift in the world. The old mill house still stands on the historic lift slope, where the original drive system can be seen. Nowadays, Eisenbach has two lifts that take skiers and snowboarders up the slopes. There are also plenty of kilometers of cross-country skiing trails in Eisenbach, whose highest point is 1130 meters, making it one of the highest communities in the Black Forest.
