The communities of Grafenhausen and Ühlingen-Birkendorf form the Rothauser Land. This is located on the southern edge of the Black Forest Highlands at 450 to 1100 meters above sea level almost directly next to Switzerland. Ühlingen-Birkendorf is a merge of eight formerly independent villages. What they all have in common is the sunny, almost fog-free location in the area of the romantic valleys of Schwarza, Mettma, Schlücht and Steina.
The Naturena bathing lake in Ühlingen-Birkendorf promises an eventful summer day for the whole family. Nestled in an idyllic wooded setting, the natural adventure pool offers guests a variety of recreational activities including beach volleyball, boules, paddling pool and children's playground. It is also the starting point for the Oberholz Adventure Trail and the Root Trail to the Tannenmühle.
When the snow gently falls on the mountains and forests, the Rothauser Land is transformed into a winter fairy tale. Miles of cross-country ski trails, family-friendly ski lifts, and toboggan runs make the hearts of winter sports enthusiasts beat faster.
Every two years, an open-air theater is held at the Riedern am Wald monastery. A cultural highlight in which many locals play the leading roles.
